Help creating a world map for homepage – similiar to #takemeanywhere

Greetings friends!

Ive been looking around for a theme and plugin combination to allow me to make a webpage similiar to this one: https://takemeanywhere.vice.com/

I really like the notion of the map and your trail trough it telling the story, rather than some bloated blogtext etc.

Ive bought the “WP google maps” pro version and it seems to be a plugin up for the task, but I cant seem to find any theme that will accept/allow “WP google maps” plugin to just fill out the whole first screen.

Any ideas? Any help much appreciated!
