• Alright, so I feel stupid as can be. I had multiple accounts under multiple emails, and I decided I wanted one consistent account name under one email. It sounded logical, so I started deleting my usernames and decided I was going to reregister. I permanently deleted all my accounts and… I can’t register any of them because they exist (username or under the email) but when I go to log in it says they don’t exist…. I saved my site, but I can’t log in to www.ads-software.com because my logins just don’t exist anymore, my emails aren’t registered, and the usernames no longer work. Honestly I’m amazed I could log in to my site, but I went through bluehost and was able to restore to login to that….

I’d like to have a specific username…. What email that’s attached to doesn’t matter, but it says the username exists (of course it does, I DELETED IT PERMANENTLY). Am I doomed to never have that username now?

  • Just a little but important clarification: your login at the www.ads-software.com website is NOT in any way connected to your login on your own WordPress-powered website.

And you can’t log in to your own website with a www.ads-software.com account. The two are not linked in any way. And you don’t even need a www.ads-software.com account to run a WordPress website.

The www.ads-software.com account is only used to participate in the WordPress community (eg request support here in the support forums, contribute to the development of WordPress software, etc).

It’s not clear to me from your message what user accounts you deleted (accounts on your own website, or accounts at www.ads-software.com)… and even if it’s the same place you tried to register again that you were told the account exists.

It seems to me you deleted the accounts on your own website, but tried to re-register at www.ads-software.com. Is that correct?

So I deleted my WordPress.com accounts and my www.ads-software.com accounts. I understand they’re not the same or connected, but I don’t feel that’s 100% true. You see, my website says that my usernames profile is managed by gravatar, which is owned by WordPress.com

Well, you never mentioned WordPress.com in your original post, and I never mentioned WordPress.com in my response. So my response was 100% true to your original post.

Talking about WordPress.com… it’s also 100% true that accounts on WordPress.com have no direct link with accounts on your own self-hosted, WordPress website. There’s no built-in link at all, and, by default, you can’t use a WordPress.com account to log in to your own self-hosted WordPress website.

But you may be able to log in to your self-hosted WordPress website with your WordPress.com account by installing and connecting the JetPack plugin. It’s the JetPack plugin (which doesn’t come with WordPress, but may have been pre-installed by your hosting company) with makes it possible to use your WordPress.com account to log in to your site.

The Gravatar service is owned by WordPress.com, and there’s no separate login: you use your WordPress.com account to log in to the Gravatar website, Gravatar.com.

    In short,

Only the accounts you see in the USERS section of your WordPress dashboard (from your own domain name, not the WordPress.com dashboard) are controlled by the WordPress software. When you delete a user from here, it’s gone forever, and you should be able to create a new user with the same email address immediately.

I hope that clarifies the confusion.

@bernardothedj if you’ve deleted a WordPress.com account that you’d like to restore, you’ll have to reach out to the support team directly. You can find information about reaching out to them on the Contact page.
