    Hi,
I’m trying to use WordPress as a site builder for a seemingly straight forward website that I have a host for.
I’ve done a lot of reading and watching, but I’m struggling to find information relevant to my needs…

I need a theme that lets me disable objects such as the header and footer, and allow me to add my own objects in as a title, or images. Another important condition is being able to add custom fonts, ideally using a plugin.

I am confused to why I’m burning so much time and effort on finding a workable theme for this, feels like I keep hitting dead ends. Are there any free themes or resources that will allow me to build a very basic site using my own creative content and layout?

    Thanks

  • Hi @thekingkrunk, welcome to WordPress! Good job so far.

I would suggest starting out with the Twenty Twenty default theme: https://www.ads-software.com/themes/twentytwenty/
and with this plugin to customize most of the things you need: titles, images, custom fonts: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/twentig/

Also, you can read this article: https://twentytwentytheme.com/ (not written nor fully checked by me yet)

    Makes sense?

Keep it up with the good work.

    Matias.

    Thanks for the response @developress

I may be missing something? but it seems I am still unable to hide or remove certain objects, such as the header, even with the twentig plugin. I am also unable to use my font with this theme.

I will try looking into further combinations of themes and plugins… but I am exhausted at this point… I have some image assets, some text and a custom font, and I want to centre them on a single page. No navbar, footers or posts. Surely I don’t need to reinvent the wheel here?

There must be some resources or keywords for themes that don’t place restrictions on your site.

Hi @thekingkrunk, the themes are meant to “put restrictions” on your site meaning that a Designer / Developer took time, effort and creativity for you to use it and place your content there.

To meet your specific needs you can make your own theme but you will need some coding knowledge right now (it will be done with Gutenberg and full site editing soon, we hope)

Do you have a screenshot/image of what are you trying to achieve? I can maybe point you in the right direction.

Sorry @developress I thought I had already updated this! Thanks for your help.

I don’t mean to diminish the efforts of developers, just wish there was a way to sort the wheat from the chaff. As in flexible themes vs set template ones.

I compromised on the custom fonts, and ended up using a theme called Make from Themefoundry, I highly recommend it to anyone with their own design in mind!
