HELP! Getting an error code

  • On one of my free subscriber pages, my members have been getting an error code (45 people in one week). I already contacted my host (hostgator) and they said this code is not theirs, and that I should contact S2 Member which is the plugin that regulates my secure pages.

    One of the members emailed me the message below. Hostgator says that the part which states: “Too many IP addresses accessing one secure area!” would not be in their code.

    So I need to know how to resolve this – as I have a very large event coming up where 20,000 people could be on one secure page at one time watching a live stream!! I don’t want issues where they can’t access the page.

    I’ve been trying to log in for a couple of days to print the agenda and speakers for the Not Back to School conference. Keep getting the error message:

    503: Service Temporarily Unavailable
    Too many IP addresses accessing one secure area!

  • This should explain the problem and solution!

    I’d strongly advise never to activate this option anyway, unless all your users will be accessing your site only from one place (i.e. desktop computers).

    I changed the restrictions to 10 devices. We shall see if that works!!

    But, honestly, I wouldn’t even go with 10. Because it isn’t devices you are limiting, but IP addresses.

    One person with a phone, tablet, or laptop is quite possibly using a new IP address every time s/he logs into a wifi connection (because of the way that routers allocate them).

    So you’ll almost certainly still find users getting locked out. And, let’s face it, if the limit is as high as 10, what are you really preventing?

    If you have the Pro version, you’d be much better off using Simultaneous Login Restrictions to limit sharing of login details.
