• I added a line of code into the functions.php and then deleted just that text and now my site is down and I’m getting this error: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘}’ in /home/content/p3nexnas06_data03/68/2140768/html/wp-content/themes/sugar-and-spice/functions.php on line 56.

It won’t let me go back into editor or anything! Please help!

  • You’ll have to login via FTP and fix the file.

Can you tell me how? I’m new at this – which is why I shouldn’t have been messing around with coding!

Do you have FTP access to the server? You need to open functions.php on a text editor, add “}” on line 56, save it and uploaded back. You probably deleted that by accident when you deleted that line of code.

If you don’t have an FTP client (Filezilla etc) on your PC, you can usually edit files (carefully) using your host’s Control Panel.

SO I’m now in Filezilla and have my ftp files up. Can you tell me what I’m looking for? I found wp-content and then a file called functions.php but I can’t do anything with it.

The easiest thing to try is to delete that file and replace it with your original functions.php file.

It’s probably the functions.php file in your theme.

    wp-content > themes > your theme > functions.php

Sorry to keep asking questions. You’re very helpful. I’m using Filezilla and I’ve located the functions.php in my remote site and found the error (extra line of code) and corrected it. My site is a managed wordpress at GoDaddy so I can’t find any relevant files on my local site to transfer the corrected file to. Any help?

You should just save the file you corrected using ftp.
