• Sorry if this is in the wrong area. I’m a super newbie to all of this, even FTP. I’d like to try out the free version of Semilogic Theme and CMS. I don’t understand how. On the software’s page it says:

“Upload the wp-content folder into your WordPress directory — the files will find their way to where they belong
Activate one of the bundled themes and visit your home page — an autoinstall script will do the rest”

That might as well be in Japanese. I use Fantastico to automatically install wordpress. I thought the wp-content folder was installed when Fantastico installed WP

And after that step, how do I “Activate one of the bundled themes”.

    Thank you for any help,
    John

  • You will need a ftp program like Filezilla (recommended) or the like. After you extra the Semiologic theme into a folder it will create a wpcontent directory under semtheme. Under the wp-content directory there are subdirectories for plugins and themes which are both needed for the install.

with Filezilla you will transfer the wp-content theme to your server into your wordpress directory. Filezilla may warn you the directory exist. Just hit ok. After you upload the theme you will go to presentation and activite Semiologic. If you are using the 3.2 version there is a 2 column and a 3 column version of it. Decide which one you would like to use. After the activate the theme and view your blog, a bunch of plugins will get enabled for you. There are more Semiologic plugins you may want to download from https://www.semiologic.com/software/ that Denis’ template is self-aware.

I hope this helps. Good luck

    Mike,

That was helpful. I think what threw me off was that I was trying to install the new beta version. There is no wp-content file anywhere in the beta version. So I’m uploading by FTP and it seems to be stuck on file 114 of 114. What’s up with that?

According to Filezilla there were no areas on uploading. When I go to presentation there are only two themes in there and those are the defaults.

I am trying to upload version 3.2 of semilogic, however I would like to use the beta version if I could get that to work.

    Best,
    John

I am using the version 4 beta on my site. As it is still a beta it isn’t packed with all the other companion plugins yet. The only thing in the zip file is the theme itself. You just need to extract the files and upload to your wp-content\themes directory. Then enable from the Presentation menu.

You’ll want to pull down the related plgins from the site (Fuzzy Comments, Admin bar, etc) and those get upload to your wp-content\plugins directory.

Denis is getting close to releasing the offical release. At some point he’ll update the documentation on his site to match version 4.
