Help letting my wordpress automatically update .htaccess

    Alright, so I need to update my .htaccess to change my permalinks pretty much regardless of what structure I pick if it is not default. My host is ipage. I am trying to give wordpress access to change that file automatically so I used the tutorials online to learn to go to my file directory and change permissions for my index.php and style.css pages, but it is not working.

    I don’t really understand .htaccess at all or get how to do it myself, so I really want to get this straightened out. I didn’t have this problem when I used x10hosting so I imagine it must be my host server and somehow I’m missing a step to give wordpress access.

    I’m trying to get permissions changed on the .htaccess file directly and I enabled my file directory so that it shows files that start with “.”, but I cannot locate or figure out the proper place to make this file

    The .htaccess file should be in the same directory as your wp-login.php file. If it is not, create a blank file with a plain text editor, save it as .htaccess , upload it, and set its permissions to 666.

    For iPage hosting, do the following.

    1. In the CPanel, go to .htaccess editor
    2. Click on any of the options, Hotlink Protection is the easiest
    3. Click “Save” button for Hotlink Protection
    4. This will create the .htaccess file
    5. Use File Manger to edit file

    I just figured it out and posted the results on another thread.
