I host a personal blog using WordPress on the formerly quite excellent hosting service Westhost. Unfortunately, for the last year or so the site manager has been very slow and problematic. Now it is entirely non-responsive, and they are unsure why. I have a support ticket open.

However, I am inclined in the next few weeks to switch hosting companies, given the ongoing difficulty I am having with the WestHost control panel.

Would someone be willing to guide me in finding and grabbing the MySQL database down from the WestHost server, for later upload to a new server? Thanks in advance.

On the left, the phpmyadmin column.

Post back if nothing in that section helps.

Thanks… That is an amazing set of documentation you’ve made available.

Part of my current problem is that PHPMyAdmin is unavailable, because the site’s control panel went non-responsive after uninstalling PHP 4 to prepare to install PHP 5. As a result, I’m shut out.

I was hoping I could use FTP to just grab the database all in one chunk, then upload it elsewhere.

I think I’ll wait and see what the hosting company’s support people say about the crashing control panel, then come back if I can’t use the advice you’ve given. Thanks a million.

jason, you may be able to bypass the control panel and go direct to phpmyadmin.

Try this in your browser addy bar:

https://*your domain name*:2082/3rdparty/phpMyAdmin/index.php – see if you can get at it that way.

Or if your cpanel isn’t the standard, see if you can find in your history a similar link.

hey vkaryl…not sure if this would work, but if you can run multipul WPs from one DB you should be able ta run 1 WP with multiple DBs.

If he cant get it figured maybe he can set up a new DB and modify his configure file so all the info would be instantly set up into 2 DBs…one (the old one) as a remote mysql. Then when its all safe the old DB info in the confige file could be removed.

I have no idea if that would work…maybe someone that has messed with the confige file more cold set me stright or post the mod for it that would work.

    What about the WP-DB-Backup plugin?

That doesn’t rely on getting to phpMyAdmin at all I don’t think. Run the backup right from WP. ??

The earlier versions (can’t remember which) work on 1.5.2 I think. At least, I remember having one installed before I upgraded my own blog… I think. ??
