• Just recently my site made an automatic upgrade of WordPress and afterwards I started experiencing problems. At first a couple of plugins stopped working and then suddenly I got an e-mail notification from iThemes Security that I (my admin account) was locked out of WordPress for a period of time “due to too many login attempts.

    And then the following:
“To release the lockout please visit the lockouts page.”

I thought perhaps it was an attempt to hack my site with a fishing e-mail, so I didn’t click the link. However, when I subsequently found out that I in fact HAD been ejected from our site and that I now can’t enter again, I got a bit perplexed. Particularly, because I am the only one with access.

Do any of you have an idea what could be going on and what I should do?

  • First, identify exactly which plugin you are using and then post in that plugin’s dedicated forum via its page in the Plugin Repository.

Sorry, I think I wrote this in the wrong forum. I don’t think it is a plugin problem, I think someone is trying to hack my account by repeatedly attempting to login to the admin-account.

Only guessing though. Just seems odd that I would get 4-5 mails saying I’m locked out due to too many failed attempts to login, when I haven’t tried to login.

    Contact the plugin’s author.

    I’m sorry? I don’t understand.

I am locked out of my admin account?

Exactly which plugin author am I supposed to contact and why?

I got an e-mail notification from iThemes Security

The iThemes Security plugin that you installed & activated on your site.

Ah, I thought that was part of the wordpress theme? When I locked on after updating the site there was a message in the top that said I should download the iThemes Security. I just thought it was part of WordPress…?

I thought that was part of the wordpress theme?

    No – it’s a plugin.

The basic password security is now so tight I can’t get into my own site!

@stevepett: If you require assistance then, as per the Forum Welcome, please post your own topic instead of tagging onto someone else’s topic.

I can find the help OK, it is just a great deal of aggravation.

I do understand the need for security, but forcing very complex passwords should be a choice, not a requirement.

I have no chance of remembering them, and ALL password keeping systems are liable to fail then I’m in real trouble !

    @stevepett: Post your own topic!

I was having the same issue.

I login cpanel and delete a iThemes Security plugin.

    Everything works for you. TQVM
