I’m pretty certain I have screwed up and it is not the plugin at fault.

My site is had a redirect from https to http in the .htaccess file.

I think I may have tagged one of the settings in the SEO plugin that removed the redirect from the .htaccess

I suddenly lost all access to the site, front end and back end.

I have added the redirect back to the .htaccess but I still get

    Try:

    Checking the connection
Checking the proxy and the firewall
    ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT

Can anyone help me or do I need to restore the backup

Just confirmed with my host technical support that it was the .htaccess redirect that caused the problem and that my browser had cached my previous changes.

Now to figure out what I had done with the SEO settings to cause it …. and how to get into the plugin settings and undo what I did

    Hello!

Have you just switched from another SEO plugin to TSF? It’s possible that upon plugin deactivation, the .htaccess rules are rewritten by another plugin or theme… when this fails to write correctly, the web server will no longer respond.

I’m glad your hosting partner was able to resolve the issue quickly.

TSF does not interact with WordPress rewrite rules any longer since v4.0.0, since it caused far too many issues. TSF never interacted with .htaccess-rules directly in the first place because of the foreboding aforementioned. So, of what happened to your site, TSF physically can’t be the cause of it, and I’m marking this as resolved.

Hopefully, the issue won’t reoccur. Have a pleasant day!

P.S. Ask your hosting partner to turn on opcode caching for PHP. It’ll make your site at least 50 times faster, and it’s shameful that they didn’t do that for you automatically.
