• Hello everyone,

Hello, I am researching different CMS products for a new e-commerce website. I believe that WordPress in combination with various plugins may be a good solution, but I would like to get your opinions on this. I am looking for a simple solution that can be customized with relative ease if possible (i.e. it should not take several months just to get the site coded). These are the feature requirements I have so far:

    Initial Requirements
-System for selling variety of products/different versions/levels of the same product (selling digital downloads initially, may expand to drop shipping later)
-Newsletter sign up/system to compose/send newsletters
-Content tagging (tag common themes in blog posts/articles on site)
-Add This support/other easy way for article links to be established
    -Flash/streaming video support

Expanded Requirements (can be added after initial site is live)
    -Search bar
    -RSS/Feedburner Stats
    -Contact Us Form/anti-spam integration
-Coupon codes/upgrade discounts for existing customers and marketing campaigns

I realize this may be a combination of software/plugins depending on the CMS used. Any suggestions you can offer will be greatly appreciated, thank you!

  • WordPress with e-commerce plugin and other plugins can do all that. As to whether you can set it up yourself in less than a month, it depends on your capability and technical skills. You have to be extra vigilant and careful with the plugins and settings for WordPress site because you’ll be dealing with other people’s money.

You might need to hire a professional to develop the site for you. WordPress has a job board where you can post the requirements for your site – https://lists.automattic.com/mailman/listinfo/wp-pro

Thank you for your reply! I have heard about an ecommerce plugin for wordpress. Are there many settings that will threaten the integrity the site? Is it more vulnerable to getting hacked than other solutions? I plan to use Paypal or some other transaction service to deal with all the financial information because I don’t want the liability involved there. The only data I want to collect is e-mail addresses for the newsletters.
