Help me pleas GoDaddy will suspend my domain

Improper directory structure: GoDaddy limits the files number to 1024 in any of the wp-content/uploads directories.

Seriously? That’s kind of insane of them.

Okay for starters, YES WordPress makes three versions of your images. This is normal and expected. If you made 1 post a day, with 1 image per post, for a month, you’d have 90 images.

How many images per post are you uploading?

Go to https://yourdomain.com/wp-admin/upload.php?detached=1 and you can see ALL your unattached files. Deleting them does not, IIRC, delete the thumbnails etc, so you may need to go back in manually for that.

I do have to wonder about how you got so many images… I mean, you’ve uploaded 761 images for November alone. Are you photoblogging or putting in a lot of screenshots per post?

I wonder if part of the problem is Windows Live Writer but … Since you’ve solved this, I’ll mark it resolved and just ponder a lot ??

I’m still at complete loss on how to get this problem solved, its just a normal blog with average amount of pictures but there after I checked on the directories I found many of the uploaded images were duplicated, some even had 3-4 copies. What I need is figure how to delete the images that are not attached to the posts to reduce the files number to close to 1024 for every month.

But like I said am totally clueless on how to get this done ??

NOTE: I have deleted all the un-attached images from WP media gallery & I found a plugin that lets you organize images folders further into years, months, & days so that will solve the problem going forward.

Go to https://yourdomain.com/wp-admin/upload.php?detached=1 and you can see ALL your unattached files.

BEFORE you delete them from inside the media tool,make a note of where they were (2010/11/foobar.jpg etc). Then delete them in the media tool, and FTP (or however you can manage files on GoDaddy Shared) and delete any files name foobar-<whatever>.jpg that might be left over.

If you’ve done this and still have a metric tone of images… Then we should probably sort out WHY you have so many images ??

This will always happen. That’s just how WordPress works.

True Ipstenu, but I’m upset because Godaddy was very vague in this regard, I haven’t read anything about this 1024 files limit until today ?? plus my previous hosting had absolutely no problem with number of files so I assumed Godaddy were the same, not really ??

Also, you can see that the problem started since June, I mean why GoDaddy waited 6 months to tell me now & give me 48 hours dead line to fix it!

The plugin that I have found can help to prevent this problem to re-occur but won’t do any help for the the past months ??

I can think of some manual ways to do it (like making subfolders in the months, moving some of the images, and then manually editing those images’ locations in the database) but … it’s a royal pain in the ass :/

Do you mean creating subfolders in the months & then transferring the files exceeding 1024 & manually editing those images’ locations in the database one by one ?

Unless you have a naming schema that would allow you to to a bulk search/replace in the database… Yeah :/

Brute force, I’m afraid.

Can yes, will probably not. You can ask ’em though.

There’s no way to see if attached images are or aren’t being used in a post, which … Makes sense, really, since they don’t have to be IN the post to be used (I.e. Featured images)

Thanks for your reply & reassurance but I’m afraid GoDaddy has made it very clear thru their emails & phone call today, a staff from Network violations called me today to tell me that the files must be reduced to less than 1024 otherwise Godaddy will do that on their own without even referring to my consent, they extended the probation till 11/01/2011, thats 10 days from now. So, am at complete loss right now, so confused on what to do, I told him on the phone “why waiting more than 6 months to tell me now?m the prolem could have been prevent so readily when it started, a single pluging that create weekly directories instead of the default monthly ones”, but he said he has nothing to say & there’s nothing he could do to help resolve te problem & that I must fix the problem on my own otherwise proper action will be taken.

I felt really down & upset, today I upgraded my GoDaddy domain with over $150, but the upgrading does nothing to the files number limitations (1024), I’m really feeling stressed, don’t know what to do really,
