I’ve just created a brand new install of WordPress 4.2.2 via Softaculous Cpanel installer.

I’ve been going through the getting started guide here: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/First_Steps_With_WordPress

I got to the section “Put Posts in Categories” and I tried to follow the step “Click on one of the categories and you will be taken to a page for just that category”

When I do this on my page I a “Oops! That page can’t be found.”

Did I accidentally change a setting or is the guide out of date?

    TIA

  • Do you have any posts in that category?

If you create a category, let’s use the example /category/example and you navigate to that page yoursite.com/category/example, but there are no posts in that category, you may see your 404.php not found page (Oops! That page can’t be found).

Yes, I have posts in the category. If I go to the posts, I can see the category the post is in listed at the bottom of the post. If I click on the category at the bottom of the post I get the same Page Can’t Be Found error.

Can you post the site URL, please? May help troubleshoot to see the source code and run some online tools on the site.

Can I direct message you the URL please?

Unfortunately, there is not a way to do that in this forum (direct message).
