    Hi,
I’m using the NextGen gallery on the ‘work’ page of my site, https://www.susierichards.com. When you click on a thumbnail and view the larger image, it chops approx. 1cm off the top of the image.

Can anybody help me suss out why it’s doing this.

    Thanks
    Susie

  • I do not know whether this will help you as I have never used NextGen. I checked the dimensions of your pictures:- The thumbnails are 200 x 200 pixels, the slide show is 910 x 288 pixels and when you click on the thumbnails it shows a bigger picture which is 850 x 567 pixel.

If you have given one picture for the program to automatically adjust the size for the thumbnail view and the larger picture view then you can see parts of the picture missing as the programs tries to resize the picture based on either height or length. For example if you try to resize the 850 x 567 picture to a thumbnail then based on height, the picture would turn out 299 x 200 pixels and the 99 of the 299 would not be seen within the thumbnail frame.

If you given a set of three different pictures that you have resized, using paint or other program, to the dimensions mentioned above you can control what will be shown. I do not know whether you had done this – given a set of 3 pictures or just 1 picture to be automatically resized.

    Does this help you?

    Hi Peter,
Thanks very much for replying to my post and looking into it for me.

I’m using a slideshow on the homepage, which contains images which are 910 x 288 pixels. I’m then using a NextGen gallery plugin on the ‘work’ page wich has the 200×200 thumbnails which open into larger images which are 850 x 567 pixels. These are different pictures to those on the homepage. I uploaded the 850 x 567 pixel images to the NextGen Gallery which automatically generated the thumbnails which I have set as 200 x 200.

In image settings I have set it to resize images to 850 x 567 (same size as the images, it seems you have to put dimensions in these fields).

So, yes just 1 picture has been uploaded to be automatically resized.

I’m currently redoing my images so that it doesn’t matter if a bit is chopped off the top, but I’d rather not have to!

Can you try upload 3 pictures instead of one? That means you resize the picture on your computer then upload it.

    HI peter,
I’ve sussed it. My images are too big for the NextGen gallery. I tried a test one at 850 x 480 and it worked fine. I need to resize them all!

    Thank you for your help.
    Susie
