That’s the first part. I’m seeing this when I “open /wp-admin/install.php in my browser” It’s step 5 of the “Famous 5-minute install”

There’s all this random gibberish in it and I don’t understand.

First off, it’s telling me I already installed wordpress, is it supposed to..? I mean, I’ve just been following all the instructions…

Then it tells me to fill out the information below, but I don’t know what I’m supposed to put in there. All I see are two blank boxes..Do I put my email? Or some sort of account information?

Below the boxes, it tells me I haven’t provided my email..But where do I provide that?

Also, it tells me to “note that password” but where is the password? There’s so much weird crap that I can’t tell which part of it is my password..

    Answers, please?

  • You seem to be seeing two pages at once. Page one should be where you specify the name of your blog and also provide the email for administration. Page two should provide you with your password. On first page, Guessing that the boxes are still placed in the correct order, you should provide the name of your blog (you choose that yourself, it will be displayed in the header and in any RSS reader.) and the bottom box should be your email address. You could carry on with the install, but I would suggest deleting your selected database, then re-uploading wordpress to your host and attempting the install again. Make sure that your account is authorised to use PHP (Which seeing that you are able to proceed through steps 1-4 of the install process, it would appear that your account is indeed authorised to do so.)

I filled it in like you said, but it just refreshed the page.

Is it possibly an issue with my browser? I’m using Firefox 3. Should I try it with Internet Explorer..?

    I’m having the same problem.

I deactivated the whole mess & started over with the same results.

    I’m using Firefox as well.

I need the Install for Dummies version because I’m seriously new to this.

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated!

Same problem here, Its very frustrating to get instructions that glorify them selves as simple but reall just mean vague and unhelpful.

    Like 4. upload everything. I mean really? upload c: d: e: f: g: h: I; hard drive contents? {everything} why not state {entire directory of wordpress} its not unreasonable.

I’m intelligent, but find this sort of instruction just smart arsed. great if it always works, but judging by the size of this forum, I dare say it rarely just works.
I’m glad these are not instructions for dissarming a bomb,
EG Its so simple, just cut one of the wires.
then goto the forum and find out why you cut the wrong wire.

    I’m losing interest fairly quickly.
    Cheers, Anthony
