I have the latest WordPress 5.7 version installed and theme and plugins regularly updated. I have MyThemeShop ShortLinks plugin hides affiliate links on my site by using a mysite.com/recommendsthisproduct or mysite.com/recommendsanotherproduct instead of the naked affiliate url.

I use your plugin, WP External Links, and by default all external links open in a separate tab or window. And by default, all internal links open in the the same url or window but because I use the ShortLinks plugin, I had to switch the internal links to all open in separate tab or window; otherwise, when a visitor clicks a banner ad in the header, sidebar or footer, it will open in the same window and not separate window so the visitor is no longer on my site but redirected to the affiliate site.

I used Inspect Element and I tried adding

    header, sidebar, footer

in WPEL > Exceptions > Ignore links by class field but it isn’t working.

Could you please take a look at the site and help me open the banner ads in a separate tab or window? I setup the ShortLinks plugins so that all external links (banner ads) have a /go/ in the url to distinguish them from other links. See https://prnt.sc/10iotxj

    Thanks

    Hi,

Thank you for using WP External Links!
If all your external short links have /go/ in them, and you want them to be treated as external links, and as a consequence open in a new window, go to the Exceptions tab and add “/go/” to the “Include external links by URL:” box

That will make all links containing /go/ to be treated as external ??
