I downloaded a theme from the wordpress gallery, and can’t figure out how to change it. I am hosted with bluehost.
Is there an easier way to change these themes for a complete computer newbie?

  • If you’ve unzipped and uploaded the theme to your wp-content/themes directory, you should be able to go to your WordPress admin page, click on Design and click the theme you’d like to use.

hi i am having same problem . i am able to change theme from local host
but from server when i click on themes does not appear anything . but from localhost its fine it does come with activate button
plz help me to solve it

I see NO “design” option. I have themes in my content foldere- downloaded–but see NO way to upload to my actual blog. So I am stuck at default and ready to chuck the whole process.

lovedrea. Have you uploaded the unzipped theme folder to your server using an FTP program?

These are the steps you need to be taking:

    1) Download the zipped theme file to your computer.
    2) Unzip the theme file onto your computer.
    3) Verify that the base theme folder is not contained in another useless folder of the same name. Sometimes you get a MyTheme -> MyTheme -> MyThemeFolderContents structure. If you upload this whole thing, it won’t work. You should pull the main theme folder out, or simply upload the inner folder.
    4) Upload the theme folder to your /wp-content/themes directory on your server using an FTP program. (If you don’t know what this means, do some research on Google or consult your host help files.)
    5) Navigate to your WordPress admin dashboard, and on the menu on the left hand side go to Appearance -> Themes.
    6) Available themes will be here, and you can switch between them.
