• Hi Everyone,

I am a complete newbie at wordpress and would really appreciate your help. Last night I finally managed to get wordpress doing what I wanted and had about 8 posts, 5 categories and 4 pages published.

Late last night I added a selection of Plugins which I’ll list below.

This morning I logged in and updated a post, after clicking ‘update’ it returned me to the edit/update screen and displayed “0 Posts”. All my pages are gone, all my posts are gone. I’m not too concerned about recovering them as its an extremely young site, but I’d like to know how to get my site running again and how to prevent this from happening in the future. I suspect it may have been the fault of a plugin, they’re listed below.

postMash was activated at the time of the crash/deletion, I deactivated it afterwards hoping it would fix it. It didn’t.

WordPress Database Backup was added this morning after the crash. I have no backup.

Thanks very much for your help everyone, I really don’t know what to do.

    PLUGINS:
    Akismet

Akismet checks your comments against the Akismet web service to see if they look like spam or not. You need a WordPress.com API key to use it. You can review the spam it catches under “Comments.” To show off your Akismet stats just put <?php akismet_counter(); ?> in your template. See also: WP Stats plugin.

SITE RECOVERED – But WHY did it happen???

I managed to recover everything by using the WP-dbmanager plugin. I guess something was corrupted, but I don’t know what was the cause of it and am worried that it will happen again but be un-repairable.

Can anyone advise on what might have caused this and how to prevent it in the future? Thanks a million.

There are a variety of things that can slightly “damage” a MySQL database, necessitating a simple automated repair. The next time it happens, access your WordPress database via phpMyAdmin (most hosting providers offer this in their control panel), then check all of the tables and choose “Repair table” from the pull-down menu.
