I have domain1.com and domain2.com. The first one is the actual website with content. The second one is a DNS Redirect. How do I make the second one to redirect properly to the first one?

I haven’t mapped domain2.com in my wordpress multisite… because in order to map it, what I have understood is first I would need to create a new entire website for domain2.com, while the domain is just a DNS redirect.

Can you please explain to me how to accomplish the redirect correctly?

actually domain1.com redirects to domain0.com and it redirects correctly.
the problem is domain2.com keeps on redirecting to domain0.com/wp-signup.php?new=www.domain2.com …

How did you map the domains?

    Through this plugin https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/wordpress-mu-domain-mapping

UPDATE: I understood only half an hour ago I could insert the same “Site ID” for the different domains. I did that but the DNS domains are now acting as simple redirect…

If domain0.com is where WP is installed then what is domain1?

it is a domain that was already working correctly as a DNS domain (not just simple redirect). It was bought and configured by someone else.

What I want to learn is: how do I configure the WP Multisite Domain Mapping in order to have DNS domains act not as simple redirect domains?

I’m honestly not sure what that question means…

I can tell you how to map a domain so that if you go to (for example) halfelf.org you get the data from code.ipstenu.org

Yeah, ok. Bu the key is that domain2 URL should remain when browsing the site… domain2 should not only redirect to domain1…

    Yes.

Go to halfelf.org – That WHOLE SITE is actually code.ipstenu.org

    How did I do it?

    1) install WP Multisite Domain Mapping
    2) Add domain halfelf.org and set it to use site #2 (which happens to be code.ipstenu.org)
    3) Set it as the primary domain
    4) Drink beer

If I have more domains like your “halfelf.org”, are they going to be set “primary” as well? What is the purpose for that “primary” option?

    Thank you!

Primary means “If someone goes to code.ipstenu.org, send them to halfelf.org instead.” It’s indicating which is the ‘real’ URL. You can only have one primary, for what I hope is an obvious reason ??

You can map as many domains to a site as you want, but again, only ONE domain can be the primary for that site ??

    (@niccolomineo)

ok, understood. I hoped I could have more than one primary domain…

Why? It’s a bad experience for your users to have two different domains with one URL. It’s also bad for SEO.

ok, I am persuaded. Thank you!
