• I made the mistake of blindly compressing all images. Even with selecting “Prioritize retention of detail”, most images turned out grainy. They used to be crisp and clean and now…. notsomuch. I also had “backup original images” selected, so I figured I could go in an restore all/most of the images, but it’s not working. Even after 12 images and sever cache clearing and refreshing, the images are still not restored. Suggestions??

Also, moving forward, what’s a better tool or way to compress images for faster speed but without ruining the images??

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Thanks for reaching out @guppygigs. Can you share what plugin you’re using with regards the “Prioritize retention of detail” setting? This isn’t part of the plugin so you may be using another image related plugin that can modify or compress images.

@guppygigs This plugin is quite good and works well. You can deactivate it and delete all webp, then regenerate the JPG image sizes with wp-cli.

There are so many alternatives, impossible to try them all. But I like the simplistic style of this plugin, just search “webp” in the plugins section and read reviews carefully should help.

Also keep in mind recompress already strong compressed JPG will always make the quality more worse. Did you try to adjust the quality setting and regenerate all images with wp-cli?
