I’m using WordPress for the main cms of the website. its located in the root.

i want a blog on sub.domain.com and would like to manage it from the same admin panel.

the best way to set this up is by using MU correct?

    Thanks.

  • sub.domain.com will still have its own admin panel.

but yes, multisite is one way you could do it.

Could I somehow put “the loop” (i think that’s what it’s called? i mean the code that inserts the posts) on the blog page rather than the main index page?

If you want a static main page and the blog off somewhere else, then you do not need two sites.

you just need to set a static main page under Settings -> Reading, and use a page template to show blog posts. Some themes even have it built in.

Don’t use multisite if that’s all you want.

And if all you wanted was a placeholder page at main.com, and the blog at sub.main.com…. you don’t need multisite for that either.

So consider what it is you;re trying to do, and what you want to do eventually.

Sure, you *can* use multisite for it… but if you just want one blog, and yo’ve never ever used the network before…. this woudl be the hard way.

    thanks Andrea,

I set Front Page Displays to “static” page

i set the dropdown for “posts page” as “blog”

the “front page” dropdown shows all the other pages I built but not the main index page.

what will I have to do to fix this? I greatly appreciate your help.

oh and multisite is going to be used for another purpose.

    thanks.

the “front page” dropdown shows all the other pages I built but not the main index page.

you have to create the the page you want to show on the front. As a Page.

i set the dropdown for “posts page” as “blog”

you also have ot make a page called “blog”, and make sure the page template for that page is built to show blog posts.
