Help Setting up WP & Bluehost

With bluehost just install wordpress using fantastico 1 click installer! It is the easiest!

I already installed wordpress. It’s the upgrade that’s giving me trouble. I also have no idea how to get my new theme to show up in my admin panel so I can select it. I’m so freaking lost, help me out dude.

I’ve figured out how to get my theme to work, it’s the upgrade I’m having trouble with.

The reason I brought up Fantastico is that it also controls upgrades as well if you don’t want to do them manually. It tells you when upgrades are available and it is just a 1 click upgrade as well. If, however, you want to do it manually:

That tells you what files to upload and which ones to watch and not upload. Uploading the folder /wp-content/ just on its own will overwrite your plugins and themes, so it is best to upload that folder, etc…

Trent, I’ve read that page several times, still hasn’t worked out. Then I tried to delete everything and install wordpress through fantastico again and now I get like 15 errors.

I have no site anymore, no wordpress and worst of all, no idea how to fix it.

These are the contents of my directory

What the hell do I do?

This is what it says when I try to install wordpress now.

The installation can not be completed:

– You cannot install more than one script in the root directory of a domain.

Click on the browser’s Back button to fix reported errors.

Thanks for your promt replys and the help brother. I called BlueHost support and she fixed it, it’s up and running. Why do I still get prompted to upgrade?

Fantastico is a little slow to get the most recent upgrade (with a release a couple days ago) but it will show up fairly soon I would imagine! That notice is for a release 3 days old only! They will get to it eventually!

Doing this with Fantastico is actually a little more advanced. I would recommend changing the auto-installer to Simple Scripts as the upgrade runs a lot more smoothly from there and Simple Scripts releases the new WordPress updates much more quickly. https://www.simplescripts.com/?p=articles/migrating_from_fantastico
However, if you are interested in doing it from Fantastico try this.
1st, Fantastico keeps track of the installs you have done and when trying to install anything over the top of them, Fantastico won’t allow it. You will have to go into your home folder and then to the hidden .fantasticodata folder’/home/username/.fantasticodata.
Within there you can see which folders you have regarding the different installations. Enter the folder for WordPress and delete the file within for yourdomain.com, there is also a file called installed_in_root.php. You will need to edit the code in here and change the line: $installed_in_root[“domain.com”] = 1; to $installed_in_root[“yourdomain.com”] = 0;
Keep in mind that if Fantastico is asking you to do this, it is probably going to overwrite the existing installation. Another good reason to change to Simple Scripts.
This can be a tricky process so its not a bad idea to make a backup first.
