Help! Single-Line Summary Index Theme?

Once again, I’m trying to find a theme/template that will work for my blog concept.
Overall, I want a fairly simple theme without a lot of junk and waste, but the one non-negotiable feature I need is that the index page shows articles listed in one-line title/summaries linked to the article pages.
Much like the old RobotWisdom weblog (the first welog), this gets a maximum amount of choice information in a text-heavy blog’s title page without a lot of onerous scrolling. Tight, efficient!
Seems such a small thing to ask…
Any suggestions will be appreciated!
