My site is billybrew.com and I host on PowWeb.

Last night I used their install central to install WordPress on a new domain, homebrewacademy.com. This domain is hosted at GoDaddy and so I updated the DNS to point at my PowWeb Server.

Now, as you can see, both sites are down. PowWeb is telling me it is a problem with my script and I need to reinstall WordPress on billybrew.com, which I have no clue how to do. I tried uninstalling WordPress on homebrewacademy.com, but it looks like the files are still there and now both sites are returning the “This site is under development” message” you see now, whereas before they were both blank.

It is very strange that when I FTP in, homebrewacademy.com has the exact same files are billybrew.com, even though I did a fresh WordPress install on it. You can even see the favicons are the same.

I backed up my site files and database recently but am really afraid of attempting a reinstall myself and don’t know how to do it and not lose my files.

Please help! Will pay if need be.

    Thanks

I understand what I explained above might be confusing, so I’ll lay out the steps that I took.

    1. Added the new domain to my PowWeb account, homebrewacademy.com, and changed the DNS records at GoDaddy
    2. Used InstallCentral to install WordPress on homebrewacademy.com
    3. This morning realized that both my main site, billybrew.com, and homebrewacademy.com were down (returning a blank page)
    4. Used InstallCentral to uninstall WordPress on homebrewacademy.com
    5. Now both billybrew.com and homebrewacademy.com have no site attached to them and show the message you see now

When I use File Manager I can see the WordPress files, so I don’t know why the site it empty.

Any thoughts on how to fix?

Just a thought. The maintenance screen is a default screen on the new domain and you see it on the old because of the DNS forward. It is an index.html in the root of the new domain, coming before the index.php of WP. Check the Homebrew domain for that index.html and see what happens when you delete it.

Ok the file was called Home.html and I deleted it. Now it is saying there is no index file. Next steps?

Also why when I update the new domain is it affecting the old one? Am I missing something about this process? I thought they would be treated as 2 separate sites, which was the intent.

The development notification is still there.

When you have WP installed in the root, the server should use it’s index.php.

The only connection between your two installs in the DNS forward, it is (virtually) impossible to put files on one host’s server and have copies come up at another. DNS is only about the domainname, not the files.

Ok checked it and most of the WordPress files in the htdocs folder of both sites are gone: index.php, wp-config, etc.

.htaccess, files that I created, and all of my folders (wp-content,admin) are all still there. I uninstalled WordPress through my host on homebrewacademy, so I don’t get why those files are missing on both domains. Or also why the folders with the themes, plugins, etc are still there.

Thanks for your help so far Gangleri, do you have advice on what I can do from here?

It sounds like you are not able to write to the root of the new domain. That’d be somethign to check with the host.
As for the ‘ghosting’ of both domains with different hosts and different servers, it beats me.
But I’m off, so hopefully somebody else has some ideas for you…

I did a test and when I upload a file to the new domain it shows up in the old one as well. I have a backup so I am going to try to start fresh by deleting the files and restoring the backup. Thanks.

Ok back with an update and the site is still down..

I deleted the new domain and changed the DNS records on GoDaddy back to the default.

Deleted all of the files on my old domain and uploaded the backup files from a few days ago when the site was working fine.

The site still comes up blank. PowWeb tells me it is a problem with the coding. They advised me to check the error logs and this is the file that I downloaded, but have no idea what it means:

    https://billybrew.com/cgi_error_log.txt

Still completely lost and don’t know how to fix the site.

    Anyone able to help?
