Help styling post meta

Hey all,

I’m running Genesis and using the Magazine Pro child theme on WordPress 4.5. I’m trying to dress up my post meta a bit but am hitting a brick wall. I would like to have the border inline with the date or even a background but when I tried the border displays above the date rather than inline. Here is an example of what I’m looking to do:
