  • Looks like you’ve been hacked… Its very strange that both your blogs were hacked at the same time, perhaps you have a keylogger trojan on your PC or something…

Change all your hosting passwords, db, ftp, etc. then wipe the whole wordpress folders and install a fresh copy of WP 2.1.2 and all plugins you have. Your blogs should still be intact, if the database wasn’t changed.

Ah man! That sucks sweaty goat balls!

I’m still very new at all this, so please bear with me. I should delete wordpress folders from my server? If I don’t touch my sql database, you’re saying the blogs should stay intact? Do I need to back anything up first?

Thanks for your help azaozz. So appreciated.
What is it with hackers screwing with innocent people’s lives?

    J.

Of course you should backup first, just in case. Then search this forum on what to do after being hacked, there’s quite a few posts, but in general you need to make sure it doesn’t happen again. Your webhost can probably help you with that (looking at logs, etc.)

Yes, if your database wasn’t changed, your blogs should still be there. If not… How recent is your db backup?

Check your main index.php file and see if it was modified.

Also, some hosts do daily or weekly backups. Be sure and contact them about this – for help so it doesn’t happen again and because if you’re on a shared server, others are at risk if not already hacked and they should know.
Be sure all folders are permissions 755 and files are 644.

Yes, my main index.php file was definitely modified (both of them).

I deleted my wordpress files and was about to re-install it but I noticed that while Fantastico was loading, the page was ‘waiting for stellaartois.ru’ so I got the hell out of my cpanel. I’m dealing with my webhost now and hope to have this mess resolved soon.

    I appreciate all your help.

Well, that’s a kind of good news. It wasn’t you that was hacked, so probably your db is still intact. Maybe try to go to phpMyAdmin if you have it and make full db backup.

Yeah – I made a full db backup right before logging out. I won’t bother re-installing anything until I hear back from my host. I just don’t get why anyone would go out of their way to figure out how to make people’s lives difficult?

By the way, you all rock! Thanks for being here to help us poor souls in distress ;P
