Your permalinks are wrong.
Redo them and accept the second option down.
No custom stuff.

I went down the list starting with your suggestion of second option. Still getting 404s

Are you copying the rewrite rules to the .htaccess?
Do you have a .htaccess file?

um, now is when you laugh at me. No, I do not have an .htaccess file. I have been poking around looking for how to create one as well as how to copy rewrite the rules.

created an htaccess file, re-did permalinks. How do I copy re-write rules to htaccess?

when you updated the permalinks – did it give you code to paste into your .htaccess file, or did it say something like “options updated” or “htaccess updated”?

you can write whatever you want in there… it’s your “about” page – essentially same as a blogger profile i suppose.

but no, it’s your site, hosted all by you – you don’t have to link it to anything. oh, and tell the 200 year old high seas merchant captain to watch out for Jack Sparrow… I hear he’s on the loose… ??
