• Resolved sarapk

    (@sarapk)

In WordPress, I updated 4 plugins (Jetpack, Thrives Theme Builder, Really Simple SSL, Word Press Quiz Builder) and then I proceeded to activate the last plugin as the rest were already activated.

I then got a screen with the following message:

There has been a critical error on your website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.

This has happened before. Last time the issue was caused when I updated my PHP and I simply resolved it by reversing that action. This time I am at a complete loss as to what to do. I cannot even enter the backend of my WordPress site and I am unclear how simply updating/activating a plugin could do this.

I am not a developer and I don’t know to code so the WordPress ‘debugging’ information site was not very helpful for me to follow.

    Please help me!

    Thank you-
    Sara

  • Did you “check your site admin email inbox for instructions“?
The email should contain a link to allow you into your site to fix it, by pausing the offending plugin. It’s called Recovery Mode.

If you don’t have the email, you can guess that it was the last plugin that you activated. You can use your FTP or your host control panel File Manager to delete that plugin’s folder, and see if that fixes it.
Once you find the plugin at fault, you can ask at the plugin’s support forum for a fix.

Thanks, Joy I will try to delete the plugin folder on the back-end then. My only worry with that approach is the last activated plugin was for a quiz plugin and I have created numerous quizzes on my site that took a lot of time to build. I’m worried if I delete the plugin I will lose all of this content.

Unfortunately, I didn’t receive an email. Every time I get this message, I never receive the promised email suggested by ‘check your site admin email inbox for instructions’

Your plugin is unlikely to save data in the plugin folder. That is where the code is. The database is where content is saved.
It might not be the last one you activated. It could be that that’s the only time you went to where it failed.

Hi Joy, when I logged in this morning to give this a go it was up and running. So strange! However, I’m sure it may happen again so I have saved these notes for next.

I really appreciate you taking the time to advise me. Thank you!

In my website, the plugin that causes this error is the Loginizer Version 1.4.3. So, whenever I want to customize Twenty Seventeen Version 2.3 , I need to deactivate Loginizer Version 1.4.3 first.
