    I am typing this fast as it just happened and Im stressing out.

    So I just recently logged into the WordPress site for my father’s business since I haven’t done so in a year and he wanted to see if there were ways to edit the site (we originally got it professionally made). I saw there were updates to a lot of plugins so I updated them to get the bug-fixes and improvements.

    WordPress also said the themes had updates too so I decided to update them cause I thought it would improve some parts of the site. After like 5 minutes my site looks like crap and the design it like generic. I thought updating the theme would make it look better but I guess it didn’t. Can anyone help? This is a family owned business website. And customers look at it to get our info. Is there any way to revert? The theme was Health Center from Veetem.com (or some website like that like that). Any help would be appreciated. I just really want my father’s site to be back to normal since he has a lot of other things he is tied up with in his business.

    The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • @asimcard,

    I’m really sorry this happened to you. It sounds like your previous developer made the modification to the theme itself and not on a child theme, so when you updated the theme, it overrode the modification and your website went back to the default theme look.

    Unfortunately at this point, the only way to recover theme files is through a backup. If you’re not already using a backup plugin, check with your hosting provider as they sometimes make automatic backups of your site or root folder and might be able to get you back on track. It looks like you’re using GoDaddy. Reach out to them and they might be able to help.

    If everything goes as planned and you get your old site back, don’t run any updates until you install a good backup plugin beforehand. I recommend BackupBuddy, but there are other plugins just as good if not better. If possible try to move all theme modifications to a child theme before updating the theme. I suggest you contact your previous developer for help if you are unable to do this.

    Best of luck. I hope you can get this resolved soon.

    Ok, I will have to call them tomorrow and ask.

    I have posted this on another forum site and they said GoDaddy charged just for backups so hopefully they have at least have a backup available for use since I am not sure if we are paying for that.

    called them

    According to the support guy, there should be backups since we have a WordPress managed hosting with them. However, our webdev didn’t give us the “backend” or hosting account. We paid in advance for I think 10 years or something so payment wasn’t an issue. We have two accounts, the WordPress dashboard account and godaddy.com account. We should have a third account according to the support guy which is the backend hosting account on godaddy. He said he looked at our code to our site and almost guaranteed that we have a backup since its WordPress managed. However, he cant 100% say without the other account’s access.

    @asimcard

    That’s good news. Now you just need to get that account access from your previous dev – I don’t know why a developer wouldn’t share that information with a client if they are not actively monitoring and applying updates.

    Hopefully you get it resolved without any issues. Good luck.

    Final Update: We got the backup restored and everything is working now. Took forever since our “web dev” kept stalling. Thanks!

    @ajvillegas

    Excellent – that was the best outcome. Cheers!
