Just migrated to GoDaddy (don’t ask why) Linux dedicated server. Of course, things went awry. Here’s what’s left that I just can’t figure out:

    1. Every time we try to upload to WP, it spits out an error message saying “[FILENAME] has failed to upload due to an error. Unable to create directory [DIR NAME]. Is its parent directory writable by the server?” Think this has to do w/ the set up folder permissions, but am not able to run “chmod 0775 wp-content” in wordpress “wp-content” folder because I can’t find it at all in FTP.

    2. Some of the thumbnails are broken (see the site: greatist.com). Apparently this also has to do w/ the permissions folder on the thumbnail cache folder. Not sure what that means or where to start.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks,

  • Common problem with new dedicated servers. Can you check ownership of the directories? From personal experience that has solved this issue many a time.
The server, especially if the site was not migrated by yourself could have assigned itself ownership of the files, you can try either chown them in shell or ask Godaddy support to do it for you.

Thank kinggomez. Managed to figure this out & yup, definitely was the directory ownership. GoDaddy was of know help (surprise), but fixed it. Appreciate it!
