    I just downloaded wordpress and uploaded it through Filezilla in /htdocs/wordpress.
    When I go to my original site https://www.xxxxxxxx.com, it says ‘Directory has no index file’ on Internet Explorer and Firefox.
    However, when I go to https://www.xxxxxxx.com/htdocs, then my website appears in its default theme (i havent yet started using WordPress)

    What have I done wrong? How do I get my website to load on xxxxx.com and not xxxxxx.com/htdocs?
    thanks! ??

    this is what comes when I go to my site

    Directory has no index file.
    Browsing this site or directory without an index file is prohibited.

    If you are the site’s webmaster, you can remedy this problem by creating a default HTML page with one of the following names:

    * index.html
    * index.htm
    * default.htm
    * Default.htm
    * home.html
    * Home.chtml

    NOTE: Filenames are case sensitive, i.e., Home.html is not the same as home.html

    Try adding DirectoryIndex index.php index.html index.htm to the top of your root .htaccess file.

    ok I reinstalled WordPress directly into the root

    Now I’m getting this page when I go to the domain:
    This site is under development
    This is a default template, indicating that the webmaster has not yet uploaded a Web site to the server.

    now what?
