help with ajax div reload

Hello, i am using a <div> [shortcode]</div>, and i need that DIV refreshes automaticlly every 5 seconds, without reloading the entire page.

I have learned that I should use a ajax call, and add some code to the functions.php and js, but i don′t know what code.

The shortcode is a php query, and works fine, but i need to eload the page in order to update that query. But I only want that DIV to refresh.
