Help with Child Theme

    I am currently using a child theme built on Custom Community and I got everything figured out to my liking but now I want more, such is always the case, no?

    My understanding of child themes is that any file name which I duplicate I then control? I tried this with single.php but my new file didn’t make the changes. If I make the changes in the parent file it works…

    Here are the things I’m trying to accomplish:

    1) I want my comment field (plugin SEO Facebook Comments) to be above the TAGs section.
    2) I want to remove the link to “edit this post” I know only admins can see it but I still don’t want it there, ever.

    Things I want to accomplish which I think need to be handled differently but still related (I have to take these plugins out of the post and put them somewhere else?):

    3) I want plugins Social Share Buttons & ELI’s Related Posts Footer Links and Widget to be on the same line (one left one right) they currently stack.
    4) I want the above mentioned plugins to be below the comment field.

  • Maybe break this up into a few different questions. It’s to much for me to take in.
    *Yes, you can control almost all files from your child theme.

    The basic root question is how do I make my child theme control the theme?

    If I copy the contents from home/index.php to child/index.php and remove a line of code I’m not seeing a change. If I make the same change in the home location I see it happen.

    Have you reviewed child themes?

    I have, it is how I was successfully able to set up a child them. My child 404 page and functions work so I know it is set up correctly it’s just when trying to control pages it doesn’t seem to work.

    So can you explain what you mean by “home/index.php”? “home” has no meaning as a folder within the architecture of a theme.
