• Hi,
Someone is posting spam comments to a specific post on my blog. The funny thing is that my log (i use statcounter) does not show that post as having been accessed at that time. Is it possible that the spammer is using some other way (other than http access) to post comments?

    Any clues would be helpful.

    Thanks,
    /a

That’s one of the ways in for automated spamming tools which allow them to bypass hitting each post. I’d suggest checking out the various spam protection options here:

yes I got bad_behavior and spam karma 2 after posting here a while back and problems diminished significantly!

Kafkaesqui.. thanks for the pointer. I guess the smapper is sending a post request to wp-comments-post.php and since this page does not have statcounter code embedded, it does not show up in the logs.

bestfoot – thanks. i’ll try these plugins

I started using WP-Gatekeeper which reduced my spam to zero, and it requires no maintenance on my part. Readers that are not logged in need to answer a simple question. Couldn’t be easier. Highly recommended.

BB + SK2 here. Plugins like the above drive me nuts, but SK2 does everything behind the scenes, rarely even being known that it’s installed. ??

Are there any more ways in which a spammer can automatically submit comments? I’ve removed my wp-comments-post.php and even then there are just too many spam comments. My wordpress automatically catches those and its not a big problem but i’m just curious to find out how a person is able to submit comments ?
