The Instructions for installing WordPress seem very confusing to me ….

    I noticed this however:

If you have shell access to your web server, and are comfortable using console-based tools, you may wish to download WordPress directly to your web server using wget (or lynx or another console-based web browser) if you want to avoid FTPing:
    wget https://www.ads-software.com/latest.tar.gz
    Then unzip the package using:
    tar -xzvf latest.tar.gz

I’m not sure I understand how to do this …. My webhost is DreamHost. How can I upload WordPress directly to my DreamHost website … ???

I tried uploading WordPress from my hard drive to the DreamHost Shell, but can’t upload folders, only the files within the folders. Can I just go ahead and upload only the files, without the folders, or is it necessary to keep the folders intact when uploading to the Shell … ???

It is essential to keep the file/folder hierarchy intact.

Whey are you trying to upload to shell all you need to do is upload contents of wordpress folder using ftp program like filezilla in root or folder.

    I don’t understand this process:

“all you need to do is upload contents of wordpress folder using ftp program like filezilla in root or folder.”

    How do I do that?

I’m giving Cyberduck a try …. Looks like it might be uploading all the files with the file/folder hierarchy intact ….

This is very confusing …. I uploaded the WordPress files using Cyberduck, then several people told me to delete all those files and use the One-Click Install on DreamHost. I can’t find that though ….

In order to install WordPress I need to change from PHP4 to PHP5. Is Nuv compatible with PHP5? If I change to PHP5 I cannot change back to PHP4, so I need to know if Nvu will still work with PHP5 ….

It looks like I need another Domain in order to install WordPress. The message says that my Domain need to be empty! I cannot delete all the files I already have …..

It looks like I need another Domain in order to install WordPress.

You can still install WordPress on your domain. Just place it in a subdirectory, and do a manual install. Example: yourdomain.com/blog -or- yourdomain.com/wordpress. Or you could ask your host if they allow you any sub-domains for your account. They may have an FAQ or a tutorial on how to do that.

I need to know if Nvu will still work with PHP5 ….

If you referring to NVU the editing software, I don’t believe the version of php would have any impact on NVU.

I can install wordpress for you, for free. If you want this, please fill out the form on This Page

Other then that, I think I am useless :S

I finally was able to install WordPress. I had to create a folder in my directory.
