• There are users who show in the /network/users (/wp-admin/network/users.php) as well as users who show inside each of the sites (/[subsite]/wp-admin/users.php.

    1) Should all users regardless of sub site show under the network users list?

    2) Can the same user login to multiple sub sites?

    3) Can a user have different roles in different sub sites?

Let me know if you need details. Essentially every time you create a user, that user is a network user which can log into each site. You can assign roles specific for each user/site combination.

We are uasing the Active Directory Integration plugin, and I’m having trouble with logins. I wanted to gain a bertter understanding of users in a multisite set up so as to be able to better understand the interaction of the plugin with the basic functionality.

    Tagging active-directory-integration for that.

Basically WP has one massive users table for the whole network. There’s only one setting that is ‘global’ (aka network wide) and that’s for super admins. Everyone else has roles managed on a per-site basis.

(Technically so does the super admin, but they always have network admin access, so while you can add the super admin as just an editor on a site, they’ll still have super admin access.)
