• I’m using query_posts to show only posts from a certain category on a custom Page. When I try to use the more tag to limit the amount of content shown for each post, it does not work.

From what I understand the more tags work on the home page, and not on single-view pages for example.

Is there any way I can get it to work the way I want? Or any way I can change the way that I’m showing the posts on the Page to make it work?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks for reading.

  • not on single-view pages for example.
Because that would be a nonsense! The single post view = view the (whole) post. You come from the index where, for example, the author is using the more tag… so, it would be a nightmare to get to a single post view that show the same pre-“more” fragment of the post.

And Pages by default don’t “understand” the more tag: Pages are never listed as are the posts on an index or archive file – so no need for it.

moshu, I completely understand everything you said in your first paragraph, as I stated in mine. I KNOW why it doesn’t work on the single view pages, this is quite obvious, and I never said that it was a bad thing.

You can also see that I said I know it works on the Home page. I dont understand where your animosity is coming from?

After all your ranting and raving, you still offered no help whatsoever, you only managed to state what I’ve already acknowledged in my post.

Sorry, I might misread the part about the single – I thought you are complaining about it.

The second paragraph tried to explain why it doesn’t work on Pages (you said you want it to work on a special Page of yours).

Use a Category Template instead of Pages – and your problem is solved. Can’t that “custom Page” be replaced with a “custom” Catgeory Template?

I’m not sure what Category Templates are, but thanks a lot for pointing me in the right direction, it sounds like it’ll work. I’ll let you know how it turns out!
