Hero image vs. slider widget loading performance

My website has a center-aligned Hero Image, followed by a center-aligned Text Heading.

During loading, currently the text heading loads first followed by the Hero image.

Is there any way that the Hero image loads first? If I get rid or Hero image and use the Image slider, will it make any difference in performance?

Any suggestions most welcome.
