Hi MotionBlocks team, I have some suggestions for your Impressive Block based theme “Blockpress”:

    1) – Add a Settings section in the Admin Area for “Blockpress” with options related to the Theme “Animations” and “Performance”:

    —- In the “Animation Tab”:
Checkboxes to “Enable” or “Disable” individually the Blockpress Theme animations. This way the users that don’t like to have animations can Disable them separately:

    – Menu Elements Hover animations
    – Sticky Header animation
    – Buttons Hover animations and Button Clicks animations
    – Posts Entrance Animation in the Blog/Archive Pages- etc….

    —- In the “Performance Tab”:
    – Add the option to “Load Google Fonts Locally” and “Serve Gravatars locally”
    – Checkboxes to choose between “Load” or “Unload” some unnecessary files like the emojis, embeds, etc…, reducing this way the number of http-requests in the front-end

    2) – I know BlockPress is more targeted to Affiliate Websites but would be great for a Broader adoption of this theme if You start? adding some Ready to Use “Starter Templates”( Full Site Designs) targeted to Business Owners and Agencies that Mostly build “Business and Corporate Websites”.

You can take some inspiration from the Starter Templates in this link ->?https://www.kadencewp.com/kadence-theme/starter-templates/??

    3) – This last point about “Blockpress” is Not a suggestion, is an issue related to the “Largest Contentful Paint” in “GTMetrix” mainly in the Home Page when this page is set to “Latest Posts”. Let me explain:

When I run these tests using ultra fast themes like “Neve”, “GeneratePress”, and some others on the same Barebones/ Fresh WordPress installation, only switching between themes, I’m getting “Largest Contentful Paint” results for the Home Page below the 500 milliseconds for Neve and GeneratePress themes. And when I switch to “Blockpress” the “Largest Contentful Paint” is approximately 1,700 milliseconds.??

Here the GTMetrix tests results on the Homepage of my Testing Website using Blockpress, Neve and Generatepress:

    Neve –>??https://gtmetrix.com/reports/playgroundwp.xyz/aeBYhCJJ/

    GeneratePress –>??https://gtmetrix.com/reports/playgroundwp.xyz/jj723AoA/

    Blockpress –>??https://gtmetrix.com/reports/playgroundwp.xyz/tGOYLHLI/

I’m Not a developer, but surely there is something that should be improved. Maybe some Blockpress Animations are causing this performance issue in?this?particular?case when loading “Latest Posts” on Homepage. It would be awesome if we can get the same overall performance of Neve and GeneratePress themes

    4) – This last suggestion is for “Greenshift”. In order to be a complete solution to build Business Websites it would be great to have a basic “Contact Form Block” and also a “Map Block” based on Google Maps or Open Street. These are the only two missing blocks for Business Websites.?

That’s all for now. I have some more suggestions but I will leave them for another time in future.?

    All the Best,
    Miguel

Thank you for suggestions, I will try to answer

    1. Add a Settings section in the Admin Area – theme already has settings, you can find them when you edit posts, you can see top right corner with logo of theme

    2. Checkboxes to “Enable” or “Disable” individually the Blockpress Theme animations – Blockpress has no hard coded animations (except preloader which you can disable in settings, see 1) so nothing to disable. Blockpress theme is FSE theme which is made with blocks, it means that you can add/remove/change each block and add/remove/delete animations to it.

    3. Menu Elements Hover animations – without hover, menu will not work
    4. Sticky Header animation – you can disable sticky header in Site editor when you edit header
    5. Buttons Hover animations and Button Clicks animations – you can disable them when you edit button block
    6. Posts Entrance Animation – there is no post entrance animation

I think you look to Blockpress as experienced user of classic themes, like GeneratePress. FSE themes have totally another logic, they have nothing hard coded in php templates. All templates are blocks which you can edit or remove. I recommend to check in google “what is FSE themes wordpress”

    7. Load Google Fonts Locally – currently, we added two styles with local fonts in FSE style selector. We will try to find way to load custom fonts, not easy question, but this is good suggestion

    8. I know BlockPress is more targeted to Affiliate Websites – It’s not correct. Blockpress was never targeted as Affiliate websites, it’s for business and for e-commerce. My purpose is to make something beautiful and fast. Of course, we have plans to make Starter packs, this will be available once we finish some functionality.

    9. Largest Contentful Paint – this is related on 90% on content which you have in first screen. Why do you have bad LCP with Blockpress? Because your page with GeneratePress, Neve has no menu, which takes some time to load. Try to remove menu also in Blockpress and check. To be true, I don’t understand why you have such time, something wrong with setup. See our demo, it has no caching at all and near 300ms for LCP. When I disable menu and search as you did on GP, it’s near 200ms for LCP

    GTmetrix

    10. For map, I recommend to use just iframe, for contact form – CF7 plugin, however, I will forward your suggestions to Greenshift plugin’s developers

    Hi @motionblocks,

Thanks for your comprehensive reply. Related to “Load Google Fonts Locally” or “Self-Hosted Google Fonts”, I’m Not referring to the ability of Upload Custom Fonts. What I’m referring to is that when we choose any Google Font from the Blockpress settings “Global Typography”, it would be great if you add in Blockpress an option to automatically downloads and stores the selected Google Fonts locally on our own website server.

This way, the?Google Fonts being loaded locally, is much better for performance than loading the fonts from the Google CDN. This is already done in some popular themes like Astra(free version), Kadence theme(free version), Blocksy(PRO version), etc…

You can check how this works by installing for example the “Kadence theme”, and after the installation go to the Theme Customizer and select any Google Font that you want in Customizer -> Color & Fonts -> Typography, after that, also in the Theme Customizer you can activate?the option to “Load Google Fonts Locally” in Customizer -> General -> Performance. Once you Enable “Load Google Fonts Locally” there will appear the option “Preload Local Fonts”, please, Enable this also.

Now you can go to Google “PageSpeed Insights” and run some Tests with the “Load Google Fonts Locally” option and also?the “Preload Local Fonts”?option both “Enabled” and another Test with these options “Disabled”. You will see a Big difference in Performance.

It would be Awesome for the “Blockpress” + “Greenshift” Combo to have this built-in performance optimizations available.

If you have proper loading from google servers, then, perfomance will be better, because browser usually already have such font.

Anyway, local loading is already in TODO list
