I’m having two problems. Rows that I’ve designated as hidden are still showing up in the table on this page. For instance, search for someone named hilary jordan. Her row is marked hidden but she (and others so marked) shows up.

Also, lately, when I save the table after making changes, I get this error: “Attention: Unfortunately, an error occurred. There was a problem with the server. HTTP response code 500 (Internal Server Error).” Yet when I check, the change I made actually was saved. Could this be because the table has gotten so large? It’s up to 661 rows now.

Another strange thing happened. I discovered that all of the rows that I had marked “hidden” had gotten unhidden, but the rows just above them were hidden. I went through and fixed that, so they are hidden again, but they’re still showing up in the public version of the table.

I have several other tables with which I’m having no such problems.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

I think I found and solved the problem. I have a lot of posts and pages in the site, in addition to this large table. I spoke with GoDaddy and they said I’m hitting up against the server limits. My current server has 2cpu’s and 4gb of Ram. I’m transferring to one which will have 8cpu’s and 16gb of Ram. That should solve it.

    Hi,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

That sounds pretty strange. So, the hidden rows being visible could be caused by the rows having been marked as “unhidden” again (which could maybe have happened due to a database glitch). Now, I have no idea why other rows (like those rows just above the others) would be affected here… This could indicate some caching issues.

That 500 Internal Server Error could be related to the table size, but then 661 rows is not actually big and your table only has a few columns… It would be good to find out more about this error. For that, please set the WP_DEBUG constant to true in your site’s “wp-config.php” file, see https://www.ads-software.com/documentation/article/debugging-in-wordpress/#wp_debug , or maybe check the server’s error log file (if you don’t have access to that your self, you web host company’s support team should have access).

    Regards,
    Tobias

    Hi again,

ah, only saw your second reply just now.

To be honest, from my experience, your server (2 CPUs and 4GB of RAM) should be totally fine here (even though I don’t know how many pages you really have). This sounds like a case where they are upselling you just for their profit, but without a real technical need.

    Tobias

Hi Tobias. Thanks for your responses. My site has 680 posts and 690 large pages (with 2-hour interview transcripts on them) and it continues to grow. I also host about that many mp3’s on the server which feed my podcast, and many millions of those have been downloaded, so they may not have been upselling me when they said I was hitting my server limits.

In any case, I’m upgraded now, but I’m still getting that 500 error. That other strange problem persists: All of the rows that I had marked “hidden” had gotten unhidden, but the rows just above them, which shouldn’t be hidden, were hidden. I fixed this several times but it kept reverting to this condition. So I saved the code from the hidden rows and deleted them entirely, but the rows just above them that had erroneously been hidden, are hidden again. I unhid them but again they show up hidden.

I can make certain changes in the table and they do get saved, despite that error, but then this other problem keeps coming back. Does this mean that my table may be corrupted? If so, is there a way to fix it? A lot of work went into it.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

ah, ok. Yes, if those pages and mp3s get a lot of traffic a more powerful server might be needed.

As for the issue: If possible, I’d like to take a direct look at this. Could you therefore please get in touch via the email address from the bottom of https://tablepress.org/pricing/ ? Thanks!

    Regards,
    Tobias
