    Hi,

I have fought hard with wordpress & managed everything – but this:

How can I hide the first item in the menu in TwentyEleven (that is, the posts) and show just a page instead.

Right, for the time being, I do not wish to use my site as a blog but have pages only.

The trouble with the current state is that the heading of the post changes color when you hover & that there is a hyperlink when you click on it (I may just as well change that and keep the one post as a token first page).

    Thanks!

  • Do not edit the Twenty Eleven theme. It is the default WordPress theme and having access to an unedited version of the theme is vital when dealing with a range of site issues. First create a child theme for your changes.

Thanks, I am already working on a child theme.

You can set your home page to a static page in Settings->Reading. Set the front page to whatever page you want to display as your landing page. Create a blank page and point your posts to that. In theory if you don’t want people to be able to get to the blog at all you can remove the blog/posts page link from the menu in Appearance->Menus. Other than that I don’t see a way to do what you’re attempting without modifying the theme code.

That’s amazing! I have spent hours to figure some things out on my own, and now I get your responses within minutes.

So if you don’t mind to help me out some more …

I used an image of my email adress to prevent spamming. But now I have two problems with that solution
    1) people can click on it (because they think it’s a hyperlink) and then it opens – I would like to prevent the file from opening
    2) there is a small frame around it (which is not originally in the jpeg file I have uploaded)

    Any solution for that?

I have asked that question in a new post as it concerns another topic. Thanks for your help on my first issue!
