hide edit.php, role based

Hi guys,
this is a multi-user site, i’d like to prevent subsciber level users from listing the submitted posts (that is, accessing edit.php) and grant access to post-new.php only, so they can submit post.

I’ve already tried the Adminimize and the Admin Menu Editor plugins, both looked promising but they didn’t do it properly and even messed up rights irreparably (uninstallation didn’t help).

I wonder if there’s a hack to functions.php that would do this for me. Or perhaps a plugin, though i’ve checked all that came up. Any help would be highly appreciated.
