• Hey!

Hope the answer to this question isn’t too obvious.

I’ve installed the Hide My Site plugin on a development site, and it’s doing exactly what it’s supposed to: requiring a password to view the site.

My simple question is: is this any different than password protecting my site directory in my cPanel?

Also, I want to make sure the pages of this development site aren’t indexed, and so I’d like to know if Hide My Site is helping to prevent Google and other crawlers from following and indexing the pages on this dev site. It sounds that way from the plugin description, but given how important it is that this dev site not be indexed for SEO reasons, I wanted to double check. ??

Thanks everyone, and thanks to the man from Cleveland for developing this plugin!

I haven’t used the plugin yet but I would prefer a plugin to using cPanel to protect the directory. Every time you want to allow the client to view the site you need to go back to cPanel and change the password again. Next time you need to give the client the new password and every time after you would need to give them a new password.

If I understand this plugin from the description it would be much simpler to just disable the protection to allow the client to view the site then re-enable after, no need for them to log in or you to create and give them a new password each time.
