  • Are you comfortable editing template files?

No problems with some basic file editing..

Great. Follow the Template Files video here to see how to move one of the template files to your theme. Once you’ve done that, open the widget-carty-empty.php file and remove the contents.\

I’m still struggling with this. What I did was create a folder in my WordPress theme called eddtemplates (as showed in the video) copied the widget-carty-empty.phpfile to the folder, opened it and emptied the contents.

    Result: Nothing looked different.

I then made a backup of the widget-carty-empty.php file and edited the copy directly in the templates folder of the plugin.

Result: There was no text in the widget saying Your cart is empty but the widget was still there in the sidebar.

What I am aiming for is to completely hide the widget when there is nothing in the cart, so it won’t even appear in the sidebar.

It should be edd_templates – sounds like the video might be out of date.

This is the path to the empty template file but it’s still showing the cart widget with the empty cart text.

it’s widget-cart-empty.php – spelling needs to be exactly the same

It’s correct, just a typo in my previous post..

I’ve just tried this and it works perfectly. Can you please double check your filename, folder path and that you are doing it in the correct theme.

    (@swake)

All correct. The only thing I can think of is some sort of conflict with the Arras theme.

If you switch themes to 2013 and add the template folder and file, does it now work?

    Thread Starter swake

    (@swake)

Switching themes doesn’t help, it just totally messes the look of my site with no sidebars, widgets or anything so I can’t give you an answer as to whether that is the solution.

I guess I’ll just have to live with it as is. Thanks for the effort trying to troubleshoot for me.

Not a problem, if you change your mind, head over to our support forums and we’ll gladly continue helping you on this.

Switching themes isn’t a solution, just wanted to check if the empty template file works on a standard WP theme. Sometimes a customer’s theme can be the cause of the problem.
