• Hi there. I have two user roles which each have varying display and activity permissions on Ultimate Member. To split the logins I added the User Role Dropdown onto the main login form.
My two Custom User Roles do show up in this drop down but so does the default User Role of ‘register’. I know that this is going to confuse Users of the site – as they will think they need select the ‘register’ as their default role while Registering. Is there any way to hide the default the role. (Using the Default role as one of my custom roles was not successful as it also listed it as ‘register’ ignoring the actual name it was given)

If anyone out there in knows how to do it, I’d sure appreciate a shout back. Thanks

  • Hi,

Perhaps you need to disable the secondary button on the login page? This is under Ultimate Member -> Appearance -> Login Form. Set Login Secondary Button to off.

Hi there verysiberian. thanks for the suggestion. I just tried it now and no its not the secondary login button. ive turned that off and ‘register’ still sits there. I have a screenshot but can’t paste it here. As there are two different roles one having an elevated priviledge on the site, the core builtin default one is not required but does show up in the Account Type drop down selection box and shows as ‘register’. So: ‘GROUP NAME ONE’ ‘GROUP NAME TWO’ ‘register’ and the ‘register’ I need to hide from the drop down / login.

…or here’s the link (should have posted that up earlier) https://cherrypie.me/register/ it’s the top dropdown that’s picking up the default ‘Member Group’ and listing it as ‘register’. It shouldn’t be there.

You might try deleting one of your two roles, and then recreating it by starting with the built in Member role, which you may rename and then reconfigure to match the deleted role’s settings. That way, there would only be two roles instead of three and the “register” may not appear.

Thanks for your reply. I tried that one aswell. I used the Default (Core – Builtin) role and renamed this one and then had the secondary role. The second one showed in the drop down as expected but the renamed default one showed up as ‘Member’ and took no notice of it’s actual naming. ?? I’d prefer to hide it from the drop down altogether.

How odd! So there literally is no user role called Member any longer since you renamed it, but it still shows up on the regstration page?

Any chance you are using a caching plugin or service?

Correct it is weird. No there is no user role called ‘Member’ but it showed up even when I renamed it. So I created an additional one, removed all settings from the core-default one, including its name and it now shows up as ‘register’.

…sorry, forgot to answer this bit. No caching plugins at all and none on hosting server.

No other registration plugins present, either?

Nope. I think that the only way I’m going to get round it is to creat a separate login form (so have two Sign Up forms) and the somehow direct the secondary one over to the secondary profile. I’m not too sure if UM can direct to a secondary Profile though.

Aaargh… it just gets worse. I have removed the drop down User Role from the Sign Up options. And now have two separate login forms. That’s fine – but what isn’t is that the second user, which also has a custom built UM Profile template, is defaulting to the Primary Users Profile, which has extra fields that are for the Primary users of the site. This is how it should be:

    User One (Primary)

Primary Sign Up > User One Profile > Add details into Profile (Called Contact Card) > Done

    User Two (Secondary)

Secondary Sign Up > User Two Profile > Add details into Profile (Less info fields) > Done

But what is happening is this (for Secondary User):

Secondary Sign Up > User Profile One > Add details into Profile (as this is not recognizing the secondary user template it goes directly to the Primary Profile setup).

    Any ideas?

    Thanks again.

Yikes, sounds like a mess. So do you now have two separate user profile pages? I had trouble with that setup in the past. You might consider having a single user profile page in which the extra fields are simply hidden from the user role to which they do not apply. I hope that helps.

Yup that would work – how do you hide certain fields?

When you’re editing the User Profile page, use the conditional fields support option at the bottom. For example, for a field that applies to one user role but not another, enable the option, “Hide if {community role} not equals {name of community role}.”
