    Hi @umberto69,

Thank you for your request. We must point out that the following statements do not constitute legal advice. Therefore, I can only give you evaluations from our intensive experience with the EU legal regulations in practice and a technical assessment of the situation.

Many data protection supervisory authorities in EU countries are of the opinion that actions in cookie banners that lead to a selection must be clearly labeled. An “X” symbol is not a sufficient or clear labeling of the action.

Therefore, the tooltip must be displayed. On non-touch devices, it appears when you hover over the “X” with the mouse pointer. There is no hover effect on touch devices, which is why the tooltip must always be displayed.

This cannot be deactivated, as we would like to offer you a solution for a cookie banner that is as legally compliant as possible.

    I hope for your understanding!

    Best regards,
    Jan

I understand. Would it be possible to make it a little less visible with a CSS color rule?

    Hi Umberto,

Thank you for your feedback. I can understand your wish. However, it is contrary to the legal opinion that an action requires a clear description if it is to be as visually invisible as possible, which I would advise against. A better option would be to deactivate the optional “X”, as there is no legal obligation to implement it.

Currently, the tooltip does not have an HTML element selector that you can use to apply CSS effectively. If you would like the featured despite the legal situation, please open a support ticket at devowl.io/support so that one of our developers can check whether this request can be implemented.

    Best regards,

Thanks so much for your assistance. I checked the plugin options and couldn’t find how to disable the optional “X”. Could you tell me how to do it?

    Regards

    Hi Umberto,

thanks for your reply. You have manually enabled this feature in your WordPress backend at Cookies > Customize banner > Consent options > Continue without consent > Show close icon, to continue without consent. There, you can also disable it.
