hiding category description in parent category

is there a way to hide the category description until you’re at the actual category?

this is the problem page: https://www.painefreecrafts.com/product-category/cross/artist/

I *do* want the description to show when the customer is on the actual category (example: https://www.painefreecrafts.com/product-category/cross/artist/chesterman/ )

but not on the parent categories. Previous theme didn’t show the description there, and I can’t see where to hide it – is it a WC hook?
