Hiding titles, effect on SEO?

    Hi!

    First of all, thank you for a magnificent plugin!

    I use a plugin called “Hide Title”. It basically removes/hides the titles on all my posts and pages. From my understanding, the page/post title uses the H1 tag, so am I doing SEO damage to my site by using plugins that hide the title? Or is it the Yoast SEO title that is only relevant for SEO, meaning the post/page title actually serves no purpose in terms of SEO. Is that correct?

    Yes, the title of the post is typically the H1 tag, however this is different from the <title> HTML tag, which is what the Yoast SEO plugin outputs when you edit the SEO Title in the Yoast metabox. As H1 tags are important in a search engine understanding the hierarchy of the page’s information we would not advise removing them. We would recommend reviewing the following articles on headings use and how to use headings on your site.

    Thank you for the explaination! What I wonder is if two H1 tags in one article would hurt a sites SEO rank, or if only the title tag matters?

    I understand and I’ve already read the article, but I’m still not sure if H1 is of the same SEO relevance as the title tag or not? I’ve used a H1 tag as well as having an additional hidden H1 tag on my site but it doesnt seem to have affected my ranking.

    Hi @danniee,

    Content that is not visible (such as your hidden H1) tag is usually ignored by the search engines. That being said, the additional hidden H1 tag is not doing anything in terms of SEO.
