There isn’t a grey area of colour contrast, it’s outlined for you and anyone to read in WCAG 2.0. It has 2 criteria, one for small text (Situation A) and large text (Situation B): https://www.w3.org/TR/UNDERSTANDING-WCAG20/visual-audio-contrast-contrast.html#visual-audio-contrast-contrast-76-head

Small text:
If text is smaller than 18 points tall, or if the text is bold and smaller than 14 points tall then the colour contrast ratio between foreground and background colours must be 4.5:1 or greater.

Large text:
If text is larger than 18 points tall, or if the text is bold and larger than 14 points tall then the colour contrast ratio between foreground and background colours must be 3:1 or greater.

Please also note that the ‘points’ measurements is larger than ‘pixels’ and you should use a converter to find out the actual pixel equivalent for development.

This is not a request to review and comment on a site, but research being done in the development of a plugin. Sorry about the confusion @miqrogroove – the Accessibility forum is still new and there’s been some confusion about what the ‘best’ direction is for it. Obviously you can’t open a support request for code you’re writing!

I downloaded the zip and it can’t be installed as is. You have to unzip it and copy the subfolder up ?? You may want to fix that to make it easier for people to test.

As a sighted user with horrible astigmatism, the black background is too dark and gives me a headache. I know it’s high contrast, but perhaps this is why we do a softer black for the toolbar etc and not true black. Maybe if you inverted the colors for the ‘default’?

Also I would recommend it be a per-user config, so a multisite can benefit from it, versus a no-config, since they multiple users can pick their desired scheme.

Hi thanks. Also chatted with @afercia and we all agree the per-user “color scheme” idea is a better fit for this plugin. I’ll work on that tonight.

It might be appropriate to develop more than one color scheme within this plugin if inverted colors are needed. Would you agree a white toolbar is not needed by all high contrast users?
