I just used Wordfence to scan my site which it did reliably. After removing the plugin, my site became very slow in response. When I checked my server I found that the mysql process eats up almost all CPU capacity (constantly close to 100%) which it did not do before.
Our TTFB is now around 5 seconds. Before plugin deactivation it was around 1 second. There seem to be a lot of very slow queries on our database, mainly on wp_posts and wp_postmeta tables.

Is there anything known about issues with removing this plugin? Anything that could cause this extremely high processor drain? Any manual action I can perform to check whether this plugin left residues I need to clean up?

    Thank you!

Hello @allglory2him and thanks for reaching out to us!

It sounds like you might still have the tables installed. You can either install Wordfence back onto the site, navigate to Wordfence > All Options > General Wordfence Options and Enable Delete Tables on Deactivation. Then deactivate Wordfence then delete it. This will clear and remove all the Wordfence tables.

The other way to do it is to install Wordfence Assistant (plugin). Then Navigate to Wordfence Assistant > Delete all tables.

Let me know if this resolves the issue!

    Thanks again!

Thank you for your detailed explanations, @wfadam ??

I followed your instructions but there are still way too many slow queries on our wp_posts and wp_postmeta tables, some taking almost a second to be finished…

I found out that most of them are triggered from wp-blog-header.php which then loads various template php files (Extra from Elegant Themes). I usually do not touch these core- or theme-related files (if it is not a theme I developed myself). Is there still a way to tame those queries?

If you have removed all of our tables and disabled/removed our plugin, I don’t believe this to be anything Wordfence might be causing or had caused.

Have you reached out to Elegant Themes about this? It seems sometimes is taxing the posts and postsmeta tables.

    Thanks again!
